The Uzbek insurance companies increased collection of premiums by 18 percent up to 44.4 billion soum in January-March compared to the same period of 2009, a source in the government reported. Contributions on compulsory insurance in the overall structure of insurance premiums amounted to 28.6 percent compared to 40.9 percent a year earlier.
Ten companies, including the National Export-Import Insurance Company (NEIIC) Uzbekinvest, State Joint-Stock Insurance Company (JSIC) Uzagrosugurta, JSIC Kafolat, SC Agro Invest Sug'urta, OJSC Kapital Sugurta, OJSC Asia insuranse, Uvt inshurans, Temir-yul Sugurta andAlfa Invest, have collected the greatest amount of premiums - 79.4 percent compared to71.2 percent in January-March of 2009.
During the report period, the Uzbek insurers concluded 1.5 million insurance contracts compared to 1.7 million in the same period of 2009 (11.8 percent fall), including the agreements on all kinds of compulsory insurance totaled 19.7 percent of the total number of insurance contracts.
The total volume of insurance payments made in January-March 2010, grew by 22.4 percent - up to 6 billion soum. Insuance premiums (the ratio of premiums to the insurance payments) amounted to 13.5 percent compared to 13 per cent a year earlier.
The share of the three insurers OJSC AgroInvestSug'urta (21.4 percent), JSIC Uzagrosugurta (17.4 percent) and NEIIC Uzbekinvest (11.9 percent) -was 50.4 percent of all payments in the first quarter.
The source did not specify the amounts of payments on compulsory and voluntary insurance.
Currently, the country has 32 insurance companies, including two companies in the field of life insurance, one reinsurance company, three insurance brokers, one actuarial organization, the four companies that provide services to insurance assistance, and four adjust and survey organization.
In 2009, Uzbekistan's insurers increased collection of premiums by 62.2 percent up to 142.7 billion soum and total premiums grew by 28.4 percent - up to 14.4 billion soum compared to 2008.
