ADB, Azerbaijan to discuss second project in water supply and sanitation sector

Today, an Asian Development Bank's (ADB) mission led by Mr. Vijay Padmanabhan, Senior Urban Development Specialist is visiting Azerbaijan, the bank said.

Today, an Asian Development Bank's (ADB) mission led by Mr. Vijay Padmanabhan, Senior Urban Development Specialist is visiting Azerbaijan, the bank said.
The Mission will discuss the second project under the $600 million financing facility for Water Supply and Sanitation Investment Program approved by ADB in 2009
It will meet with representatives of "Azersu", government structures of Nakchivan, Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan, development partners, and non-government organizations. The Mission will also visit the project sites to review the project readiness including project's viability, detailed design, procurement, environment and social safeguard compliance.

The investment program will improve the quality, coverage, and continuity of the water and sanitation services for about 500,000 people. The $75 million first tranche loan is used to rehabilitate the water and sewage infrastructure in Goychay and Nakchivan. The second project will complete the construction of the water and sanitation systems in Agdash, Goychay, Nakchivan, and in one more town. The Mission will finish its work on August 25, 2011.
ADB was established in 1966 under the Agreement Establishing the Asian Development Bank (Charter), which is binding upon the member countries that are its shareholders. As of 31 December 2010, ADB had 67 members, of which 48 were drawn from Asia and the Pacific region.
