New steel plant to be built in Azerbaijan

LLC Baku Steel Company has signed a contract with German company Siemens VAI on the construction of a new steel plant at the port of Hovsan, company owner Rasim Mammadov said in an interview published in the official press on Wednesday.

As the material states, according to the terms of the contract worth 100 million euros, as a result of using continuous casting technology, the production capacity of the plant will be brought to 750,000 tons of products per year. Production of square steel billets from 130 to 260 millimetres is planned at the plant, as well as billets for pipes with a diameter of 110 to 350 millimetres which will be used as raw material for Azerboru JCS.

According to Mammadov, commissioning of the plant will give an opportunity to offer thousands of workplaces.

LLC Baku Steel Company started production in June 2001. Being one of the main fittings suppliers in the domestic market, the company produces goods for export to Russia, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Iran.

The company produces different grades of steel billets with cross sections of 120, 140, 150 mm and a length of 12,000 millimetres and hot-rolled re-bars with diameters ranging from 10-32 millimetres. The new steel plant will produce iron sheets and other products.
