Georgia predicts increase in number of international visitors

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

More efforts are needed in order for Georgia to gain the status of a leader in terms of economic growth in the region, said Economy Minister Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

She made the remark during the presentation of the 10-Year Development Strategy of the Ministry of Economy, which is part of the long-term economic development plan presented by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili.

"Despite the economic decline of 6.2 percent in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic, we will still remain as one of the leading states in the region in terms of economic growth; This means that we need to double our efforts," she said

As Turnava noted, unprecedented economic growth has been observed in April and May, so economic growth this year will be at least 8 percent.

"This means that we will completely reverse last year's decline and move to absolute growth, and then maintain 5-5.2 percent growth in 2025-2030," she said.

“At least more than $4.2 billion should be generated from tourism. We have good indicators related to tourism recovery. While in 2030 we want to double the record of 2019 and reach $6.5 billion”, she said.

As for the number of tourists, according to Turnava, in 2025 Georgia hopes to accept some 10 million international visitors, and by 2030 - at least 13-14 million.
