Iran discloses number of inactive mines re-launched last year

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1. The activity of 434 small mines was resumed in Iran, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), an official of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Abbas Jorjani said, Trend reports.

“In general, the activity of 1,286 mines has been resumed in the country since the implementation of the plan to resume the activity of small mines in Iran (March 21, 2019) to date,” he noted.

According to Jorjani, more than 16,000 people were provided with jobs as a result of the resuming of the activity of mentioned small mines. Also, over 50 million tons of mining minerals have been produced from these mines within the mentioned period.

The official also added that 33 auctions were held in Iran for last year in order to invest for the development of mines in 16 provinces of the country.

Reportedly, there are more than 50 billion tons of mineral reserves in Iran. On average, it produces more than 400 million tons of minerals per year.

Last year, about 12.3 trillion rials (about $292 million) were spent on mining exploration operations in Iran.
