Taxes Ministry of Azerbaijan offers to make tougher the levying of tax debts in the project of changes and annexes to the Tax Codex for 2007. Department chief of the Taxes Ministry Bakhtiyar Gahramanov told a press-conference on September 5 that the size of the penalty fees suggest an increase of 0.5 to 0.1%, Trend reports.

Furthermore, it is expected to decrease the period of delay of submitting the claim to the court body that makes a decision on the sale of the property of the debtor.

At present, the properties of the debtors are being listed, and in case of non-payment of the debts, the tax bodies will appeal to the court. Then the court will put arrest for the defined property, and it will not be confiscated without permit of the tax bodies.

According to Gahramanov, compulsory levying of tax debts became a structural unit of the Ministry in 2001 after the Tax Codex came into force.
