BMW 335i hits the dyno again, even better results

(autoinsidernews) - A couple of weeks back Automobile Magazine tested a BMW 335i coupe and put it on a dynometer to see exactly how much power its twin-turbo powerplant puts to the ground. With the 335i making 275-hp and 300 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels, it seems that BMW has underestimated this engine. Automobile estimated drive-train loss of roughly 20-25%, and figured the 335i delivers close to 350hp at the flywheel, reports Trend.

Since Automobile first published the results of that test, they've received some criticism of the report. Was this a one-time result? Was this a particularly strong engine? Did BMW send them a ringer?

Well, they got another 335i and took this one to the dyno. With cooler ambient temperatures this example was even stronger, with peaks of 285-hp, 282-hp, and 287-hp at the wheels. Due to an ECU that allows a momentary spike of boost, the 335i peaked briefly at nearly 300-hp.

Whether the horsepower is BMW's reported 300-hp or closer to the dyno results suggesting 350 or more horsepower, BMW's twin-turbo powerplant is a beast.
