The Trans Adriatic Pipeline Project (TAP) consortium is ready to double the length of its planned gas pipeline in the Greek section.
The decision will create jobs and provide Greek with investments worth more than 1 billion euros.
"This decision confirms and will further strengthen TAP commitment towards Greece. We look forward to further cooperate with the Greek authorities," TAP said.
The pipeline will originate in Greece , will pass though Albania and across the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy.
TAP includes an underwater section from Albania to Italy with a length of about 120 kilometers.
Theinitial pipeline capacity will be 10 billion cubic meters per year. The length of the pipeline is 520 kilometers. TAP's shareholders are EGL of Switzerland (42.5%), Norway's Statoil (42.5%) and E.ON Ruhrgas of Germany (15%).
