Iranian deputy oil minister Alireza Zeighami has called the administration of president-elect Hassan Rohani to increase gasoline prices in order to bring consumption under control, the Mehr News Agency reported.

Referring to a rise in gasoline consumption and also in costs for producing gasoline meeting the Euro-4 standards, he said that the next administration should adopt policies to curb consumption.

He also said that a number of gasoline production projects will come on stream in the coming weeks across the country.

If prices are not increased, consumption will incredibly soar, he noted.

Iran's average gasoline consumption stood at 73 million liters per day in the week to June 28, the IRNA News Agency reported.

The amount shows 13.7 per cent increase compared to the same time span previous year.
Implementing the second phase of reform plan would also prevent the country's gas oil consumption to rise by 7 million liters per day.

Previously, Zeighami said that Iran's production capacity currently stands at 61 million tons per day.

Currently 22 million litters of gasoline conforming to euro 4 and euro 5 standards is being produced in the country, he said.
