Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said late on Thursday he believed the "negative scenario" in the central Asian nation of Kyrgyzstan had been avoided through the efforts of "all the stakeholders."

"I do hope that the negative scenario was avoided," Medvedev told reporters in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia at the end of a summit of major emerging market nations, adding that political stability there was still at risk, Reuters reported .

He said Russia, the United States and Kazakhstan were doing their best to "suspend the negative developments" there.

Medvedev also said he would discuss the possibility of cutting Russian gas prices to Ukraine in a meeting with that country's prime minister next week.

"Our gas prices are hard for Ukraine ... but the subject (of a possible decrease in prices) is still being discussed, the subject is still open."
