BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, January 31. Kyrgyzstan plans to establish a cluster association to boost corn production, Trend reports.
The proposal for creating the cluster association emerged following a meeting on cluster production development held at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan.
Key objectives of cluster production include doubling corn yields, implementing drip irrigation systems, introducing water-soluble fertilizers, constructing warehouses with lifts, addressing logistical challenges, promoting exports, and developing initiatives for the deep processing of corn within the country.
It was emphasized that the current corn yield in Kyrgyzstan is experiencing growth, reaching 150,000 hectares. The average yield is approximately 60-70 centners (6,000 to 7,000 kilograms) per hectare, with some areas achieving an impressive 180 centners (18,000 kilograms) per hectare.
It was also noted that corn was exported from Kyrgyzstan to China for the first time in 2023.
According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the total output of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries products in the country from January through December 2023 amounted to 378.699 billion soms ($4.239 million).
