Georgian Labour Party’s Leader to Take Part at Presidential Elections in Georgia

N.Kirtskhalia / The leader of the Labour party of Georgia, Shalva Natelashvili, made the decision to nominate his candidature for the presidential elections on 5 January 2008. "The decision was made due to a statement made by the current President Michael Saakashvili," Iosif Shatberashvili, the Secretary General of the party said during a briefing.

Within the next few days the leader of Labour party will declare his decision. Saakashvili proposed Natelashvili should take part in the upcoming presidential elections.

Earlier Natelashvili was charged with spying by the Prosecutor General's Office. However, later the Prosecutor General's Office stated that Natelashvili was only questioned as a witness.

Shatberashvili did not state if Natelashvili was to be the only candidate from the United opposition of Georgia which unites ten political parties.
