Georgia , Tbilisi, Aug.31 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia /
A small hydropower plant will open in Shenako village, in the mountainous region of Tusheti, along the Georgian-Russian border in Eastern Georgia on Aug. 31. As the U.S. Embassy in Georgia told Trend, the hydropower plant will provide electricity to about 60 families residing in Shenako.
Tusheti villages have been left without electricity since 1988, when an 85 kilometer electricity transmission line was damaged.
The organization Winrock Georgia began constructing the HPP with financial assistance from USAID and other organizations in 2007. The project has been allotted a total of 357.376 lari ($1=1.65 lari).
