Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday called for deploying observers as a third party to assure Israel about its border security, Xinhua reported.
Abbas reaffirmed that he rejects the presence of "any Israeli soldier" on the borders of the future Palestinian state and stressed that the third party monitors "should be for a certain period."
"In America, they asked me if that third party can contain Jews, I told them we are not against Jews but we are against any Israeli soldier on our land, even if that soldier was Jew, Muslim of Christian," Abbas told reporters.
Abbas was responding to Israel, which had said that it could not let the Palestinians be in full control on the eastern frontier of the future Palestinian statehood, which borders Jordan.
Meanwhile, Abbas stressed that the Palestinians want peace to be struck through negotiations. He also asked Israel to recognize that the borders of the Palestinian state should be the borders of the lands that Israel has occupied in 1967.
