Conciliation talks between Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his opponents resumed following a suspension in the past few days, a source from the ruling party told Xinhua on Wednesday.
The resumption of talks was brokered late on Tuesday by the U.S. and European mediation, the source of the ruling General People's Congress said on condition of anonymity.
"The initiative of the United States and Europe proposed to form a national unity government to draft new constitution and prepare for parliamentary and presidential elections to transfer power peacefully from President Saleh within six months," the source said.
He added that leaders of the ruling party, opposition, ambassadors of the United States and the EU in Yemen attended the meeting.
There was no immediate comment from the opposition as youth-led street protesters have been rejecting all conciliation initiatives that postpone Saleh's leave, demanding his immediate resignation.
