Indonesians headed to the polls on Wednesday morning for the country's 2009 presidential election, Xinhua reported.
Polling stations in most areas of the country's 33 provinces were set to open at 08:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (0100 GMT) and will close at 13:00 p.m. local time (0600 GMT). But in Papua province, the easternmost of the country, the polls opened two hours earlier and in Bali one hour earlier because of the deferent time zones.
In the election, president and vice president for the period of 2009 to 2014 will be elected.
The quick count's preliminary results are expected on Wednesday afternoon at 15:00 p.m. or 16:00 p.m. local time while the official result will be announced within 30 days.
