Obama departs Prague after US-Russia arms treaty signing

US President Barack Obama on Friday wrapped up a two-day visit to the Czech Republic that saw the signing of a new US- Russian nuclear arms control treaty, DPA reported.

Obama left the capital Prague after talks with Czech President Vaclav Klaus and Prime Minister Jan Fischer.

They spoke about Afghanistan, the NATO's new strategic concept and a planned expansion of a Czech nuclear power plant, a contract for which both US and Russian firms are competing, Klaus said in a briefing televised on the CT24 news channel.

On Thursday, Obama and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev signed the so-called new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).

The deal marks a thaw in Russia-US ties and aims to set a tone for other countries that possess nuclear arms or have nuclear ambitions.
