ICT equipment worth over $ 317 million imported to Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan imported ICT equipment worth 249.2 million manat in 2012, according to the statistical bulletin on the Information Society for 2012 published on the website of the State Statistics Committee.

According to the bulletin, of the total amount of imported equipment, telecommunications equipment was imported to the sum of 116.3 million manat, computer equipment and peripherals - 66.5 million manat, electronic equipment - 19.7 million manat and other ICT equipment - 46.7 million manat.

The share of ICT equipment in total imports of the country amounted to 3.3 percent.

In 2012, companies operating in the ICT sector of Azerbaijan produced the value added in the amount of 869.4 million manat, or 10.5 percent more than in 2011.
According to the 2012 results, the level of investment in the ICT sector amounted to 307.3 million manat.

According to the State Statistics Committee, Azerbaijan's ICT Development Index for 2012 was 7.52. The figure for 2011 was 5.95.

According to the agency, for every 100 families there are 17 landline phones, 105 mobile phones and 70 internet users.
According to the committee, for every 100 families have 48 PCs in general, 56 percent of the users of personal computers. Internet penetration among home users is at 64.4 percent.

Of the total number of Internet users, 40.9 percent browse Internet from home, 7.7 percent - from online clubs, 21.7 percent - from the workplace, 9.5 percent - from educational institutions and 0.6 percent - from libraries.

The most popular technology to access the Internet at enterprises is DSL - 53.4 percent, 6.3 percent uses wireless access, 27.8 percent - Dial up, 3.2 percent - ISDN and 9.3 percent use leased lines.
