Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 Dec/corr. Trend E.Ostapenko / "We fully support the navies in stopping and searching suspicious vessels, intercepting the known mother ships, and arresting the wrongdoers, with force whenever necessary," David Cockfort, General Secretary of International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), told Trend via e-mail.

Cockfort said ITF fully supports the professionally trained navies doing what they do best, using their superior skills and equipment to tackle a growing criminal industry.

On 2 Dec the UN Security Council adopted the fourth resolution, which toughens combating the Somali pirates. The resolution makes it possible to use force with regards to pirates, to pursue and arrest them.

The resolution doesn't dramatically change the situation but it does further legitimise and encourage responsible naval action in the danger area, Cockfort said.

The document which was adopted yesterday gives the states joining it the right to set their jurisdiction over the pirates captivated by them, ITAR-TASS reported.

Earlier there was unclearness in international law regarding court and other legal actions against the pirates.
