Azerbaijan, Baku, August 15 / Trend , J.Babayeva /
The opposition Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP) does not believe that the opposition parties will provide a single platform in the municipal elections. "There are political forces with different views in the political arena of Azerbaijan. Due to the fact that each party has its own interests, I do not approach optimistically the opposition will act with a unified platform in the municipal and parliamentary elections," press secretary of ANIP Ali Orujov told Trend on August 15.
According to Orujov, it is necessary to try to minimize difference in the opposition. "In some issues the opposition parties need to compromise. Success of opposition is possible due to a compromise," said Orujov.
"The Union for Democracy, which brings together five opposition parties in Azerbaijan (Classic Popular Front Party, Azadlig Party, National Democratic Party, Great Azerbaijan Party and People's Party), offered to prepare a common election platform for the opposition. For this purpose, the Union stated that it supports to hold a united conference of the opposition.
Municipal election in Azerbaijan is scheduled for December this year and parliamentary election for 2010.
Orujov said that the unified conference of opposition parties will help bring them closer. "Unfortunately, this type of event can not play a major role in some cases. Before the presidential election, our party held an international conference in Baku, together with the Swedish Moderate Party. During the event, was discussed the probability of unification of the right parties. Despite that during the conference, was talked about the importance of unification, when it came to concrete steps, the parties began to act from party interests," said Orujov.
