The World Congress of the Nations of Georgia will hold a forum upon the initiative of ethnic Georgian Russian businessman Alexander Ebralidze in St. Petersburg Dec.15.

He founded the congress in 2009.

According to Ebralidze's press service, the congress has found a warm response among the Georgian diaspora in Russia. Its motto is, "Let's Unite for the Democratization and Restoration of Our Historial Motherland's Territorial Integrity."

The congress held several meetings together with Georgian public organizations in various Russian regions. Their main conclusion was that the Georgian people want "unification with Russia as opposed to political and national differences," the press officials said.

Ebralidze, who supports accelerating the process of unifying the Georgian diaspora announced its intention to take part in the presidential elections in Georgia in May 2009.

An international conference of diaspora representatives will be held on his initiative Dec. 15.

The conference will be attended by representatives of the Georgian community from 27 Russian regions, as well as countries where many Georgians resides, including Germany, France, Belarus and Ukraine. The congress has also received letters of support from Georgians in the U.S. and Turkey.

The conference's main issue will be strengthening the diaspora's role in the political, economic and cultural life of Georgia.
