Public Television of Azerbaijan Should Increase the Quality of its Programs OSCE Baku Office Head

The Public Television of Azerbaijan should raise the quality of its programs, the Head of the OSCE Baku Office Maurisio Pavessi said on November 21 at the conference dedicated to the service of the public broadcasting in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

He said that Azerbaijan should strengthen the information system to become integrated into European standards. In this aspect, he properly mentioned the role of the television, adding that presently the printing media in Azerbaijan does not possess a special influence. Pavessi said that 98 percent of the Azerbaijani population use the services of the online media.

The Ambassador considers that it also needs to expand the human resources and information pluralism. Next year the OSCE intends to render assistance to the Public Television.

Giving a speech at the conference, the Director General of the Azerbaijani Public Television Ismayil Omarov informed the conference participants on the programs of the television, program policy, structure and activities of the news department.

The expert of the BBC Public Television Richard Lukas, who is the author of the report prepared on the base of monitoring held by him and other experts in the Public Television of Azerbaijan, touched on the positive and negative aspects of the activities of the Public Television. According to the expert, the news of the Public Television carries an official form. He thinks that it needs to increase the number of the analytical programs and create more conditions to hear the oppositional opinions. The documentary programs should be simplified. It needs to increase the creative approach for work, Lukas said.

In addition, he touched on the activities of the Public Radio of Azerbaijan and said that it needs to increase the working spirit of the workers and that the news of the radio should not repeat the television.
