ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 3. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has met with Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev to discuss key developments in national infrastructure and regional policies, Trend reports.
Bozumbayev reported on the progress of the National Project for the Modernization of Energy and Utility Infrastructure, which aims to overhaul Kazakhstan's existing energy and utility systems over the next five years.
This project, valued at over 10 trillion tenge (over $19 billion), will include the construction and modernization of more than 6,000 MW of power generation capacity. The financing will come from market loans and the national budget. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the wear and tear on energy and utility infrastructure, improving reliability for the population.
He also addressed new regional policy approaches aimed at addressing disparities in social, industrial, and utility infrastructure across the country's regions. In line with the president's directive, a project office for regional policy will be established to coordinate the implementation of national programs.
Additionally, Bozumbayev discussed the development of an aviation hub in the Mangystau region, which is envisioned as a key driver for regional economic growth and a critical component of international logistics networks.
The president tasked Bozumbayev with finalizing and approving the National Project for Energy and Utility Infrastructure Modernization by the end of the year and emphasized the importance of advancing the regional policy concept.
