ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 6. Vice-Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov at the 8th meeting of the Kazakhstan-EU Subcommittee on Energy Issues expressed interest in attracting European companies to participate in auctions for renewable energy sources, hydrogen energy projects, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the country, Trend reports.
Akkenzhenov headed the Kazakh delegation during the meeting, which concentrated on energy, transportation, ecology, and climate change. Representatives from multiple ministries in Kazakhstan, including those of ecology and natural resources, transport, industry and construction, water resources, irrigation, and international affairs, also participated.
In the course of the meeting, Akkenzhenov emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation with the European Union. He noted that the strong foundation built over the years of partnership provides a solid basis for further developing bilateral relations.
"Kazakhstan is eager to expand its cooperation in the oil and
gas chemical industry, offering favorable investment conditions to
foreign partners. A key priority is attracting European companies
for deep processing projects, localizing production, and
establishing high-tech facilities. Tax and customs incentives are
available within the framework of the Special Economic Zone. For
complex, capital-intensive projects—both on land and at sea—we
implement an enhanced model contract. A crucial aspect of industry
development is our partnership with the International Center for
Oil and Gas Engineering Development, which plays a key role in
promoting local content and technology transfer," said
Akkenzhenov.
In the "green" energy sector, European Union representatives
praised Kazakhstan's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by
2060. The sides also highlighted the need to mobilize "green"
finance, promote technological exchanges, and develop human
resources.
The parties expressed a shared interest in strengthening partnerships between Central Asian countries and the European Union, particularly in the implementation of "green" initiatives and the development of mechanisms to support sustainable development.
The 9th meeting of the RK-EU Subcommittee is scheduled to take place in 2026 in Kazakhstan’s Astana.
