Turkmenistan is interested in building partnerships with leading Japanese companies, as the country has made impressive achievements in economics and technology, Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov said during his official visit to Japan.

Such companies as Mitsubishi, Kawasaki, Sojitz, Itochu Corporation and JGC, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Marubeni Corporation have expressed an interest in working with Turkmenistan, a Turkmen state press service reported.

"Turkmenistan, which has enormous economic potential, is particularly attractive to Japanese business circles," Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation Chairman Sumitaka Fujita said.

Berdimuhammedov emphasized that "the main goal of Turkmenistan's investment policy is to provide favorable conditions for long-term investment capital and build mutually beneficial business contacts in all directions."

Japanese businessmen have made numerous offers. Itochu President and CEO Corporation Eizo Kobayashi and JGC Group Chairman and CEO Yoshihiro Shigehisa and Motoichi Kato have spoke in favor of cooperating on the transport and urban infrastructure market. They also talked about joint projects in the energy and equipment and technology sectors.

Kawasaki Plant Systems CEO Hayashi Tosikazu stressed that "they are ready to provide the Turkmen partners with their experience in development and potential."

Mitsubishi Corporation CEO Yorihiko Kojima and his senior managers noted that one important aspect of future cooperation is the modernization of industrial infrastructure.

Today, about 23 investment projects worth about $780 million are implemented in Turkmenistan with the participation of Japanese capital.

The Japanese companies are engaged in industries such as oil and gas, transport and communications, construction, health and water management.
