The total volume of joint investment in the Georgia agricultural sector will amount to 7 billion lari ($2.2 billion) in the coming years, said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.
He made the remark at the presentation of the 2030 Environmental Protection and Rural Development program by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
“One of our main tasks is to make our country more economical self-sufficient”, Garibashvili said.
According to Garibashvili, the government has finished working on the initial document, and thematic discussions will kick off today.
“Georgian government made approximately 2 billion ($634.8 million) lari-worth investment in this sector in the last eight years. In addition, the private sector has invested about 1 billion lari ($317.4 million). Our main goal should be to employ as many citizens as possible in the agriculture sector. We should make our country more self-sufficient. We have nothing against the import, but we can produce much more”, he said.
The ministries present their visions within the government’s ten-year plan at the initiative of Garibashvili.
