The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic's (SOCAR) Azerigaz plans to complete the preparation of an e-map of the gas distribution system in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula by late 2011, the company reported on Wednesday.
The e-map will be prepared on the basis of the AR GIS program of the U.S. Geographical Society.
"Currently, the monitoring of the gas distribution system is underway. Accordingly, the e-map system, based on the ARGIS program, will be prepared by late 2011", the company said.
"The monitoring was already completed in some districts of Baku, but the process is still ongoing." Upon completion of the e-map, work will be launched on reconstructing the gas distribution system, which will hold the German E.ON.
The Baku and Absheron peninsula gas system are the largest in the country, and cover about 650,000 subscribers. Some 90 percent of the existing infrastructure should be upgraded for its reconstruction and modernization.
The project requires 800-900 million euros.
