Iran will discover 4 new oil and gas fields by late current solar year (started on March 20,2011), Mehr News Agency quotes Exploration Manager of the National Iranian Oil Company Mahmoud Mohades as reporting.
"The priority is discovery in joint fields and Persian Gulf region. Currently, the drilling operation and geological studies is underway," he said.
The National Iranian Oil Company currently works on exploratory operations in 10 places and it's forecasted Oil Ministry will start testing of new 4 oil and gas fields by late current year, he added.
Iran's hydrocarbon reserves increased by discovery of four new gas fields last solar year (ended on March 20,2011) to 336 billion cubic meters of gas and 213 million cubic meters of gas condensates.
The National Iranian Oil Company recently announced discovery of new gas field in Assalouyeh with proven gas reserve of 495 billion cubic meters.
Iran has OPEC's second-highest oil output, and ranks second in the world in terms of natural gas reserves after Russia.
