Iranian officials say there are not worried about a U.S. court's decision to seize Iran's internet domain (.ir).

Alireza Saleh, an official with the Information Technology Organization of Iran, said that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has not announced anything to the country yet, so the issue could be just a political and media propaganda, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on June 29.

"If the news is confirmed, we will start to negotiate with ICANN," he said.

Iran currently has over 500,000 websites with the ".ir" address.

"Some 90 percent of the figure is owned by individuals," Saleh added.

The United States District Court for the District of Columbia has recently issued an order for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to seize Iran's internet domain (.ir) and IP addresses in order to recover more than $1 billion in damages that the Islamic Republic owes for its alleged "sponsorship of global terror".

ICANN has reportedly 10 days to respond to the terror victims. It can either hand over the Iranian Internet domains and licenses or challenge the decision in court.
