BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 30. Iran’s dams have increased their water reserves by 12.3 percent in the first 36 days of the current water year (from September 23 through October 28, 2023), said Firouz Ghasemzadeh, an official of the Iran Water Resources Management Company, Trend reports.

Ghasemzadeh noted that the dams had 20 billion cubic meters of water during that period.

He added that this was more than the 17.8 billion cubic meters they had in the same period of the previous Iranian year.

The official also stated that the dams received 1.46 billion cubic meters of water inflow in 36 days, which was a 36-percent rise from the previous Iranian year’s 1.08 billion cubic meters.

According to Ghasemzadeh, the dams released 3.07 billion cubic meters of water during this period, which was 33 percent higher than the previous year’s 2.32 billion cubic meters.

The report comes after Iran experienced its worst drought in half a century last fall (from September 23 through December 21, 2022). Considering that Iran is in a dry region, the officials stress the need to cut down on and manage water use in various sectors.
