BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 29. Azerbaijan has maintained its leadership in natural gas supplies to Türkiye for the second consecutive month, according to data published by the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), Trend reports.
In May 2024, Azerbaijan's natural gas exports to Türkiye increased by 9.24 percent compared to the same period last year, rising from 923.23 million cubic meters in May 2023 to nearly 1.009 billion cubic meters. This solidified Azerbaijan's position as the largest exporter of natural gas to Türkiye during the reporting period.
Russia ranked second, exporting 734.41 million cubic meters of natural gas, which marked a significant decrease of 28.26 percent compared to May 2023. Iran came in third, exporting 593.49 million cubic meters of natural gas, down 32.94 percent from 885.01 million cubic meters in May 2023.
Overall, Türkiye's gas imports decreased by 21.94 percent, from over 3.692 billion cubic meters in May 2023 to approximately 2.882 billion cubic meters in May 2024. Imports of pipeline gas fell by 17.49 percent to 2.336 billion cubic meters, while LNG (liquefied natural gas) imports saw a substantial decline of 36.56 percent, dropping to 545.86 million cubic meters.
