Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan dancing upward

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 26. Azerbaijan's retail trade turnover increased by 3.7 percent in the period from January through October 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 and reached 48.3 billion manat ($28.4 billion).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's State Statistics Committee shows that the turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 1.9 percent (up to 26.4 billion manat ($15.5 billion), while that of non-food products increased by 5.9 percent (up to 21.8 billion manat ($12.8 billion).

The population spent 50.5 percent on food products, 4.3 percent on beverages and tobacco products, 14.2 percent on textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.8 percent on motor fuel, five percent on electrical goods and furniture, 2.1 percent on pharmaceutical goods and medicines, 1.2 percent on computers, and 16.9 percent on other non-food products in the reporting period of 2024.

In the reporting period, the value of goods sold by economic entities of the non-state sector increased by 3.7 percent compared to the figure of 2023 and accounted for 99.7 percent of the total retail trade turnover.

The monthly average per capita retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan amounted to 473.9 manat ($278.7), including turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products: 259.5 manat ($152.6); non-food products: 214.4 manat ($126.1).

To note, the turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan increased by 3.7 percent in 2023 compared to the same period of 2022 and reached 58.9 billion manat ($34.6). The turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 2.5 percent (to 33 billion manat ($19.4 billion)) and non-food goods by 5.2 percent (to 26 billion manat ($15.2 billion)).
