BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
It is more profitable to transport goods by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway than by the traditional sea route, said David Gochava, President of the Club of Professional Railway Workers, an expert on railway transportation, Trend reports via Georgian media.
Gochava underlines the fact that Baku-Tbilisi-Kars is still in test mode and is not open for commercial traffic.
He also noted that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway corridor is the shortest and cheapest route, which saves time and money for cargo owners.
“Until now, shipowners had to wait for the loading of goods in the port of Novorossiysk to transport cargo to Turkey, and loading and unloading operations were carried out in the port. This is due to additional costs that are excluded for transportation by BTK, in addition, the time of delivery of goods is halved by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Cargo owners are interested in regular delivery of goods to Turkey by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, ”the expert said.
The BTK railway has been built on the basis of the Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. It can greatly reduce the time of delivery of goods from China to Europe via Azerbaijan, which makes this route especially attractive.
