BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 13. Azerbaijan has experienced a notable 3.7 percent increase in cargo transport across all modes from January through August 2024, with the country moving 153.7 million tons of goods.
Data obtained by Trend from the Azerbaijan State Statistical Committee indicates that the breakdown of transport modes reveals that road transport handled the majority, accounting for 58.8 percent of the total, equivalent to 90.5 million tons.
Pipeline transport followed with 29.2 percent of the total volume, or 44.87 million tons. Rail transport managed 8.1 percent of the cargo, amounting to 12.4 million tons, while maritime transport contributed 3.7 percent, moving 5.64 million tons. The remaining portion was handled by air transport.
In the same period of 2023, road transport covered 56.5 percent of the cargo (83.64 million tons), pipelines managed 31 percent (45.976 million tons), railways handled 8.2 percent (12.173 million tons), maritime transport accounted for 4.2 percent (6.186 million tons), and air transport made up 0.1 percent.
