Kyrgyzstan’s silver exports surge in 1H2024

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 26. Kyrgyzstan exported over 22.7 tons of silver in the first half of 2024, which is an increase of 72 times compared to the same period of 2023 (312 kg), Trend reports.

According to data from the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the value of these exports amounted to $17.9 million, up by 91 times from the same period in 2023 ($197,326).

During this period, Kyrgyz silver was primarily exported to India, with shipments totaling 21.7 tons valued at $17.1 million (no exports to India were recorded in the first half of 2023).

Other significant export destinations included Hong Kong, which received approximately 587 kilograms of silver (up by 87.6 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2023) worth over $451,900 (an increase of 2.2 times). Switzerland also imported around 386 kilograms of silver valued at $370,766 (no exports to Switzerland were recorded in the first half of 2023).

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $7.6 billion from January through June 2024. The figure increased by 9.4 percent compared to the same period of 2023. Within this turnover, exports accounted for 16.9 percent, while imports made up 83.1 percent.

Exports from Kyrgyzstan in January-June 2024 decreased by 3.2 percent year-on-year, totaling $1.3 billion.

The value of imported goods into Kyrgyzstan was $6.3 billion, which is a 12.4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
