BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 3. At the Kumtor mine in Kyrgyzstan, more than 54 tons of gold were produced from May 2021 through December 2024, Bolotbek Idirisov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kumtor Gold Company, the operator of the Kumtor mine, said during a board meeting, Trend reports.

"Net profit during this period exceeded $1.2 billion. From May 2021 through December of last year, we paid $891.6 million in taxes and other contributions to the Kyrgyz Republic's state budget. We now face equally ambitious goals, and we will work together to achieve them," he emphasized.

The company's board members also inspected the operations at the Kumtor mine, visiting the quarries and reviewing the ongoing underground gold ore extraction project. They also toured the heavy machinery repair workshop, the gold extraction plant, and the fuel supply complex, and assessed the state of the wastewater treatment facilities and tailings storage.

Kumtor is one of the largest gold mining deposits in Central Asia, located in the Issyk-Kul region in northern Kyrgyzstan. The deposit was discovered in 1978, with the feasibility study completed in 1989. In May 2021, Kyrgyzstan took control of the mine from the Canadian company Centerra Gold Inc., which had previously been responsible for its development.
