An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale in Hormozgan in southern Iran, caused no damage, IRINN reported.
Head of Emergency Department of the Hormozgan city said the earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale occurred in the port Khamir near Hormozgan at 03.28 (local time), after which tremors measuring 3.4 and 3.1 jolted the city.
Iran's capital city Tehran is located in a seismic zone, so earlier proposals were made to remove the capital. Strong earthquakes often take place in Iran.
The strongest earthquake in recent period occurred in December 2003 in the city of Bam, located in the southeast of Kirman province. The earthquake killed 31,000 people, destroyed ancient fortress, built of clay.
