BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. Iran intends to improve railway corridors that will strengthen the country's communication ties with neighboring countries, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh said, Trend reports.
She made the announcement at an event held on September 9 in Tehran in connection with the presentation of the new executive director of the railway company, Jabar Ali Zakeri.
According to her, Iran should improve its railroads within international corridors shortly.
The minister noted that if Iran does not develop its railroads within the corridors and quickly improve their integration into the border corridors, it will lose its opportunities.
Iran currently has 14,984 kilometers of railway lines. A total of 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 passenger cars are used on Iran's railroad lines.
To note, about 300 kilometers of railway lines are planned to be put into operation in Iran by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2025).
