BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. More than 90 percent of the gas produced, along with crude oil from oil fields and flared gas, will be collected by the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) by the end of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), the production director of the National Iranian South Oil Company, Gholamreza Nourani told local media, Trend reports.
According to him, the collected flare gas will be used as fuel in petrochemical plants after processing.
Nourani added that flare gas collection projects are currently underway in the oil areas of the National Iranian South Oil Company with an investment of $4.1 billion.
“The works under the mentioned projects started in 2019. At present, 70 percent of the physical works have been completed in total,” he noted.
He noted that the pollution level of flare gas in the territories of the National Iranian South Oil Company in Khuzestan Province, located in southwestern Iran, is below 20 percent.
The National Iranian South Oil Company, part of Iran's national oil company, owns 45 large and small hydrocarbon fields over an area of 400,000 square kilometers from Iran's Bushehr province to the northern province of Khuzestan. About 80 percent of Iran's crude oil and 16 percent of gas are produced in the territories of this company.
A total of two flare gas collection projects are underway at the Southern Oil Zones National Company. The first project plans to collect 593 million cubic feet (about 16.8 million cubic meters) of flare gas per day and the second project plans to collect 249 million cubic feet (about 7.05 million cubic meters) per day.
To note, two years ago (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), Iran's gas production, together with crude oil, averaged about 114 million cubic meters per day. Daily, 79.6 million cubic meters of this gas were collected and 34 million cubic meters were flared.
