Georgian ex-football international Giorgi Demetradze has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for a betting fraud and blackmail, Georgian media reported Wednesday, dpa reported.
The 34-year year former Feyenoord and Real Sociedad player was arrested last year in the capital Tbilisi for using violence to obtain 140,000 from a man involved in illegal gambling.
The player's lawyer described the sentence as harsh and said an appeal would be lodged.
