Cairo (dpa)- Former Egyptian president Hosny Mubarak Wednesday appeared inside a makeshift courtroom on the outskirts of Cairo to face charges of ordering the killing of protesters earlier this year dpa reported
Mubarak, 83, was shown on state Egyptian television lying on a bed inside a dock at a courtroom in the Police Academy. He showed no emotion.
It was the first public appearance by Mubarak since being ousted in a popular uprising in February.
He was flown to the trial from a hospital in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Also appearing for the same trial were Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, former interior minister Habib al-Adli and six former security aides.
At least 846 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured during the anti-Mubarak revolt.
Mubarak, his two sons and Hussein Salem, a fugitive businessman, also face charges of corruption
