Moderate earthquake jolts northeastern Japan (UPDATE)

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 hit Japan's northeast region at 14:48 local time (0548 GMT) Monday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.
  
There was no immediate report of damage or casualties. No tsunami warning was issued, Xinhua reported.
 
The epicenter was estimated to be 60 kilometers under the sea off the coast of Aomori Prefecture. The tremor was most felt in the prefecture, and its neighboring prefectures, including Akita and Iwate, and parts of Hokkaido were also affected.
