Imammaddin Khalilov started at the Paralympic Games with 1/4 finals. The representative of Azerbaijan, who met with Michel Ernesto Walker (Cuba), won with a score of 12:2. In the semifinals, Khalilov met with Uzbek athlete Dzhavokhir Alikulov. Khalilov defeated his opponent with a score of 7:2 and advanced to the finals. He faced Turkish athlete Fatih Celik in the finals. Khalilov won with a score of 15:2 and became the Paralympic champion.
To note, on the first day of the Paralympics, Azerbaijani para taekwondo fighter Sabir Zeynalov (58 kg, K44) won a bronze medal.
