Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan. 28 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia/

Georgia will not return to Russia the soldier who escaped from a Russian military unit in Akhalgori.

Georgian Foreign Ministry contacted the Ambassador of Switzerland, protecting Russia's interests in Tbilisi, and asked him to check the state of sergeant Aleksandr Glukhov, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told journalists before leaving for Spain.

"I called [the Ambassador of Switzerland] and said that he may meet with the soldier. We treat him and he feels good," said Vashadze.

Georgia contacted the parents of the soldier. They were offered to come to Georgia, he said.

"If we let the soldier to return to Russia, he will be accused of desertion and betrayal. He will be sentenced to life imprisonment," he said.

The Russian soldier escaped from Akhalgori and surrendered to Georgian police yesterday. Georgian Interior Ministry circulated Glukhov's video testimony. He spoke how he had to serve in the occupied area in subhuman conditions, was malnourished and had no basic living conditions. The soldier asked for help from the Georgian authorities.

Russia demands his extradition and says that a preliminary investigation has revealed that Georgian police detained the soldier during a special operation.
