Movlud Cavusoglu's election as the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is a new stage in Azerbaijan-CE relations, PACE Vice President and head of the Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE, Azerbaijani Parliamentary International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee Chairman Samad Seyidov said.
"During our 10-year membership in the CE, we had worked together with you to protect not only Azerbaijan's values, but also the entire Turkic world's," he said at the meeting with Cavusoglu.
The Azerbaijani delegation to PACE will provide Cavusoglu with all the necessary support, Seyidov said.
"We are confident that during your activities, we will achieve solutions that concern not only Azerbaijan and Turkey, but also the whole of Europe," he said.
Democracy is gradually developing in Azerbaijan and the country is striving to occupy a worthy place in Europe, Seyidov said.
"We are confident that under your leadership we can jointly achieve solutions to other challenges that we face," he added.
According to the PACE VP, Azerbaijan's support for Cavusoglu will continue.
"You are a supporter of democracy and your activities have brought developments to the CE. We hope that as the head of PACE you will achieve even greater success," Seyidov said.
Azerbaijan's adoption in this structure was considered Jan. 17, 2001 at a meeting of the CE Ministers Committee. From Jan. 25, 2010, Azerbaijan became an official member of the CE.
