Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 30 / Trend T.Hajiyev /

The Azerbaijani Press Council is working to adopt a law on journalists who die while fulfilling their professional obligations.

"We are working on the issue of journalists who die while fulfilling their professional obligations, so that a relevant law is adopted," Chairman Aflatun Amashov told Trend.
"We, in turn, will develop the appropriate instruments and present them to different structures."

"For example, national corporations and major media outlets indicate the main points in their labor agreements while employing anyone," he said. "That is, the agreement determines how the worker should work, where he should be, whether he should travel to hotspots, how he should behave in emergency situations, what compensation his family receives if he dies, etc. This question finds its solution in large media structures."

The issue has also found a solution in several CIS countries, he added.

"The law states that if an employee dies while performing his duty, his family is granted certain privileges," he said. "But journalism... this is a profession that, I think, requires specific improvements in this regard."

He noted that the issue is also connected with the idea of the public's support for media.

"The concept reflects issues associated with solving the social problems of journalists," he said. "Perhaps, if the fund's activity expands and its capital increases, these issues will be solved."
