Kazakhstan expands green energy capacity, aims for 7GW by 2030

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. Renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan produced 5,782.6 million kWh in the first nine months of 2024, Trend reports.

As such, according to the latest statistics, the country’s installed capacity for renewable energy facilities reached 2,903.7 MW.

The breakdown of production is as follows:

Wind power plants generated 3,224.7 million kWh, the largest share of renewable electricity.

Solar power plants produced 1,612.62 million kWh.

Small hydropower stations contributed 944.4 million kWh, while bioelectric stations generated 0.56 million kWh.

This renewable energy output represents 6.67 percent of the total electricity generated in Kazakhstan during this period.

Meanwhile, compared to the same period in 2023, Kazakhstan has seen an 18 percent increase in renewable energy production, demonstrating the country’s strong commitment to expanding its green energy capacity.

Looking ahead, Kazakhstan has set ambitious goals for further expansion. By 2030, the country plans to introduce more than 7 GW of additional renewable energy capacity, further solidifying its position as a regional leader in the clean energy transition.
