BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 22. Snam has announced its 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, highlighting a total investment of 12.4 billion euros, a substantial 8% increase from its previous investment outlook, Trend reports.
According to the producer, of this, 1.5 billion euros will be dedicated to energy transition initiatives, marking a notable boost from the 1.2 billion euros in the previous plan.
A key focus of Snam’s energy transition strategy is the development of hydrogen infrastructure, with 380 million euros allocated to the SouthH2 Corridor project. This hydrogen-dedicated pipeline will span 2,300 kilometers across Italy, linking with other European nations as part of a broader EU initiative to enhance hydrogen connectivity. The project has earned recognition as one of the EU’s Projects of Common Interest (PCI) and is included in the Global Gateway List.
Scheduled to begin operations in the early 2030s, the Italian segment of the SouthH2 Corridor will be developed in collaboration with Austria’s TAG and GCA, as well as Germany’s bayernets. A partnership with SeaCorridor will connect the pipeline to North Africa, opening up further opportunities for cross-border hydrogen trade.
Snam’s approach emphasizes cost-efficiency, with up to 70% of the infrastructure being repurposed from existing gas pipelines. This strategy not only minimizes costs but also accelerates the timeline for the hydrogen network’s development. The SouthH2 Corridor is set to become a crucial part of the European hydrogen network, particularly for Germany, as the continent seeks to meet its decarbonization goals.
