BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. Trade operations between Azerbaijan and Russia totaled $411.8 million in January 2025.
The data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates that this figure represents a notable increase of around $147 million, or 55.5 percent, compared to January 2024.
Moreover, trade with Russia accounted for around eight percent of Azerbaijan’s total trade turnover during the reporting period.
Notably, Azerbaijan’s exports to Russia amounted to $81.1 million in January 2025, which is 7.3 percent higher, or $5.5 million more, compared to January 2024 (which made up about 2.67 percent of Azerbaijan’s total exports).
On the other hand, Azerbaijan's imports from Russia surged by 74.8 percent, reaching $189.2 million, an increase of $141.5 million compared to the same period in 2024. The total import volume from Russia represented over 16.11 percent of the country’s total imports.
To note, in January of the current year, the volume of foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan stood at $5.9 billion.
This indicator is $2.1 billion million (70.5 percent) more than the same period last year.
The trade balance for the period was also favorable, with exports totaling $3.4 billion and imports at $2.5 billion. These figures reflect an annual increase of 64.8 percent for exports and nearly 80 percent for imports.
During the reporting period, the foreign trade surplus totaled $986 million, up $285 million, or 40.7 percent, from a year earlier.
