ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 3. The Donald Trump administration has placed Kazakhstan on the list of countries subject to new trade tariffs under the “America First” policy, Trend reports.
The White House published the list of countries on the social media platform X. According to this information, Kazakhstan has a 54 percent tariff on American goods, so the US will impose reciprocal measures – a 27 percent tariff on Kazakh products.
Kazakhstan is now on the same list with India (26 percent), South Korea (25 percent), Japan (24 percent) and Malaysia (24 percent). The highest tariffs will affect St. Pierre and Miquelon (50 percent), Lesotho (50 percent), Cambodia (49 percent), Vietnam (46 percent), Sri Lanka (44 percent), Myanmar (44 percent), Laos (48 percent), Syria (41 percent) and Iraq (39 percent).
According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, in 2024, the country's trade deficit amounted to $918.4 billion. The largest sources of this deficit were China ($295.4 billion), the European Union ($235.6 billion), Mexico ($171.8 billion), and Vietnam ($123.5 billion).
For Kazakhstan, the tariffs will be 27 percent – the highest among Central Asian countries. For example, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan have tariffs of 10 percent.
